Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning views and dense wildlife population.

Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” This massive volcanic caldera, formed millions of years ago, is one of the most spectacular wildlife destinations on the planet. Measuring about 20 kilometers in diameter and 600 meters deep, the crater provides a natural enclosure for an incredible variety of wildlife, making it a microcosm of the African safari experience.

What to Expect

Visitors to Ngorongoro Crater can expect to be captivated by its breathtaking landscapes and dense wildlife populations. The crater floor is a diverse ecosystem with grasslands, swamps, forests, and lakes, each teeming with life. It is one of the few places in Africa where visitors can see the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros—in a single game drive.

The crater also boasts one of the highest densities of predators in Africa, including large prides of lions and an array of other carnivores like hyenas and cheetahs. The lush Lerai Forest within the crater is a haven for elephants and birdlife, while Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake, attracts flocks of flamingos and other waterfowl.

Accommodation
Ngorongoro Crater offers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from luxury lodges with spectacular views to comfortable campsites nestled in the highlands. Each provides a unique perspective of the crater and its surroundings.
